Cunningham's Streak: First baseman Wes Cunningham has reached safely in all 30 games this season and 38-straight games dating back to last season. His streak is even more impressive in that he has reached safely in 75 of the last 76 games. Cunningham has also hit safely in 28 of the 30 games this season and saw his career-best 20-game hitting streak come to an end against Eastern Illinois.
Calhoun Among Nations Leaders: Junior left hander Daniel Calhoun has been dominant on the mound as he posts a 6-1 record with a 1.91 ERA. He is currently seventh in the nation with his six victories and also ranks 35th in the nation with 51 strikeouts, 15th in walks allowed per nine innings (0.96) and 19th in ERA.
Hill Garners National Attention: Junior outfielder Daniel Hill put together a monster week that garnered national attention. After going 15-for-26 with nine runs scored, two doubles, five home runs and 18 RBIs, Hill was named the National Hitter of the Week by Collegiate Baseball and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, for the week ending March 8. He was also named the OVC Hitter of the Week.
Controlling the Running Game: Senior catcher Daniel Miller has done his part to control the running game as he has thrown out eight potential base stealers in 19 attempts. He has had help from his pitching staff as runners are only 2-for-8 when Dan Huff is on the mound.
No Free Passes: The ?Breds pitching staff has done its part in not surrendering walks. The staff ranks seventh nationally in fewest walks per nine innings at 2.47. Dartmouth currently leads the nation at 2.15. Others ranked in the top six include Texas (2.22), UC Riverside (2.26), Tulane (2.31), San Diego State (2.36) and Hawai'i (2.41). Individually, Daniel Calhoun ranks 15th (0.96).
Craycraft's Streak Ends: Right hander Chris Craycraft saw his streak of 33.2 innings without allowing a walk come to an end in the seventh inning against SIU Edwardsville (March 27. The streak dated back to his opening-day start against South Dakota State Feb. 20.
Triples Record: Just passed the midpoint of the season, the ?Breds have recorded 13 triples which is tied for 10th on the single-season list. The record for triples in a season is 20 set in 1963. Last season, MSU had the second most triples in school history with 18.
First AB home run: Daniel Hill's three-run home run in his first collegiate at-bat marked the second-straight season that a ?Breds player has done that. Last season, Zach Noonan homered to left center in his first career at-bat against Bradley.
On Deck: The ?Breds step out of conference for a pair of midweek contests. MSU travels to take on Evansville Tuesday at 6 p.m. before hosting Belmont Wednesday at 3 p.m.
