Racers Meeting NCAA APR Standards

The NCAA released its Academic Progress Rate report for the 2007-08 year, including multi-year scores for the period of 2004-05 to 2007-08.
In addition, the Racer football program has now earned impressive scores each of the past two years. This years score of 965, following last years score of 962, demonstrated significant and meaningful improvement to receive full relief of potential historical penalties resulting from its multi-year score. Despite a multi-year score of 891, full relief was granted by the NCAA Committee on Academic Performance as a result of developing and implementing a comprehensive academic recovery plan that is producing clear results.
“I am proud of the performance by our teams," noted Allen Ward, Director of Athletics. “Overall, we're in much better shape, but not letting down. We have made remarkable improvement in our scores for football and I fully expect this trend to continue.”
The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete. The APR includes eligibility, retention and graduation in the calculation and provides a clear picture of the academic culture in each sport. The APR awards two points each term to student-athletes who meet academic eligibility standards and who remain with the institution. A team's APR is the total points earned by the team at a given time divided by the total points possible, multiplied by 1,000. Multi-year APR includes four years (this year's numbers included the school years of 2004-05, 2005-06, 2006-07 and 2007-08).
