Murray State Head Softball Coach Jay Pyron has added one
more member to the 2010 roster to push the class to a total of 18 signees, with
the addition of Shelby Kosmecki from Somerset, Ky. (Southwestern).
“I am happy to announce that Shelby Kosmecki has signed a
National Letter of Intent to play softball at Murray State,” said Pyron.
“I have been watching Shelby for a while now and I have really seen her develop
and improve her game. She is a very talented pitcher that throws the ball
hard and I see her developing into a very important part of our pitching
staff. Shelby is a great student and has played with many players that
have signed as a part of our first class and they really enjoy having her as a
teammate.”
Kosmecki has been a member of the Warriors varsity squad
for the past four seasons and is currently finishing her senior campaign. Starting as a freshman, Kosmecki has helped
lead the team to three consecutive District 48 Championships, with earning
All-District 48 and All-Pulaski County honors.
“I've worked my whole life on improving my game with my
main goal being to play softball at the Division I level,” Kosmecki said. “With Murray State being a brand new program
I get the once in a lifetime opportunity of being involved with every first in
the program and setting records with my fellow teammates.”
The Warriors are currently 22-3 on the season and are
undefeated in the district and the region.
The 2008 12th Region Player of the Year has compiled a 21-3
mark this season, with a 0.31 ERA and 293 strike-outs. Kosmecki is not just a threat in the circle,
but at the plate as well. She has a .457
batting average and 21 RBI's in 2009.
“Shelby is a
competitor in the circle,” said Kerry Jolly of the Kentucky Outlaws. “She
has above average velocity and has worked hard to develop very effective
movement and command of her changeup. Shelby has a strong drive to improve and
work ethic.”
In her career the Warriors have gone 96-34, while
Kosmecki has a career record of 70-24.
She has never ended a season with over a 1.94 ERA or a batting average
under .362.
