The Murray State Racers made their way through a rainy practice round Wednesday in Columbus, Ohio on the eve of the 2009 NCAA Women's Golf Tournament Central Regional at the Scarlet Course at Ohio State University.
The Racers' five players had the chance to tour the famous course prior to starting the first round Thursday.
When MSU was on the fifth hole, rain started to fall and didn't stop until they were at dinner following the round.
“It sure was a wet day at the golf course,” MSU Head Coach Velvet Milkman said. “The course is in fantastic shape and handled the rain very well, but the rain changed the way the course will play when we start for real. It's soft now.”
Milkman said she wants the team to concentrate on their own games and avoid being distracted by the excitement of being at the NCAA's.
“We talked about that today during our practice round,” she said. “We want to play with confidence and play like we belong here. I think if we do that the results will fall into place.”
The Racers tee off from the first hole at 12:20 p.m. central time Thursday with Bethany Yates hitting MSU's first shot.
Morgan Cross begins at 12:30 p.m., with Megan McKinney at 12:40 p.m., Andrea Downer at 12:50 p.m., and Joyce Trus at 1 p.m.
The Racers play from the 10th hole Friday starting at 7:50 a.m.
