Newcomb Leads Racers At Cobb Championship

Several current and former Murray State golfers competed over the weekend at the Pepsi Irvin Cobb Golf Championship at Paxton Park GC in Paducah, Ky.
The Racers had five current student-athletes in the Cobb field, plus another three former players who competed as professionals.
Racer senior Nick Newcomb had the best finish for the MSU family with a fourth place showing after rounds of 68-68=136, while senior Chris Griffin placed 13th with rounds of 73-68=141 as did sophomore William Hunt at 71-70=141. Junior Hunter Ford carded scores of 69-75=144 for a spot in 24th place, while MSU freshman Tyler Brown placed 40th with scores of 75-75=150.
In the Cobb professional division, former Racer Jerry Price had a 16th place finish with scores of 70-69=139, while Will Cox had scores of 69-71=140 good for a spot in 17th place. Mark Brant placed 31st with scores of 74-70=144.
Jay Connell and David Morris shared 48th place. Connell, a former MSU Baseball player had scores of 75-77=152 while David Morris, a former Racer Football player had scores of 76-76=152.
