MSU Soccer Is OVC Preseason Number One

The Murray State Women's Soccer team was picked first in the Ohio Valley Conference preseason poll in voting conducted by the league's head coaches and sports information directors.
The Racers, who won the 2008 OVC regular season championship, received 12 of a possible 18 first place votes and a total of 124 points.
Morehead State (102) and UT Martin (102) shared second place in the poll with each getting two first place votes, while Eastern Kentucky (98) was fourth in the poll and also picked up two first place votes.
The rest of the poll included Tennessee Tech (63) in fifth place, with Southeast Missouri (54) in sixth, followed by Jacksonville State (44), Eastern Illinois (34), and Austin Peay (27).
The top four picks in the preseason poll mirrors the four teams that met last fall in the OVC Tournament.
The Racers followed the MSU Volleyball squad that was also the top pick this week in the OVC preseason predictions.
The Racers travel north to take on IPFW in an exhibition match in Fort Wayne, Ind. Saturday at 7 p.m.
MSU opens the season Aug. 21 at Arkansas-Little Rock.
The home opener for the Racers is Sep. 4 when MSU welcomes SIU Edwardsville, Georgia State, and Alabama A&M to Cutchin Field for the Racer Classic.
