The Murray State football team completed its third two-a-day session of fall camp with a 50-play scrimmage Saturday afternoon at Stewart Stadium. The scrimmage was the second of three planned scrimmages this preseason.
“It was actually a pretty good day with the heat and what we got for reps,” said head coach Matt Griffin. “It was a real bear trying to run the ball against our defense, fortunately we got a couple things going passing-game wise. We had some guys on the outside make plays and that is what we need to do against a defense like that.”
“Overall, we came out healthy. There are still no heat issues and there won't be since we came in in such good shape.”
The offense struck with the first big play of the scrimmage as Marcus Harris took a short pass and made a cut to break a couple tackles and race 70 yards for the touchdown.
The defense responded by limiting the yardage and the next two series and then getting a fumble recovery on the first play of the next series from Blake Booth. The defense also got big sacks from defensive ends Austen Lane and Jamal Crook.
The combination of Jeff Ehrhardt and Harris connected again on a 26-yard touchdown as Harris went up and pulled a ball down in front of the defender. Junior wide receiver Rashad Daniels also hauled in a seven-yard TD reception.
The Racers return to practice Sunday afternoon at 3:20 p.m.
