Murray State head men's basketball coach Billy Kennedy is set to do something he only dreamed about until recently.
Kennedy will team with several college basketball coaching colleagues and travel to Southwest Asia to visit troops as part of the 2009 College Basketball Tour.
Kennedy will be part of a group of five NCAA basketball coaches making the trip to visit soldiers.
The other coaches participating in the trip are Agnus Berenato of the University of Pittsburgh, Duggar Baucom of Virginia Military Institute, Orlando Early of the University of Louisiana-Monroe, and Mike Smith of Jacksonville State.
Several groups go overseas every year to visit USA troops and Kennedy is happy to participate.
"When I was asked to go on this trip I thought it was a great opportunity to be an encouragement to our troops who're there protecting us." Kennedy said. "I am thrilled to get the chance to meet some of our troops and thank them for all they do for us."
Koeberle and Associates, a Pittsburgh-based sports marketing agency, has sent a variety of different groups overseas to show troops support ranging from a Major League Baseball Legends tour to a Survivor and American Idol tour.
Recent tours include college football coaches, the New England Patriots cheerleaders, and coaches of the National Football League.
Due to military protocol, actual dates of departure and return are not publicized.
