The Murray State football team worked through the heat Sunday afternoon as the Racers conducted their second practice on the turf at Stewart Stadium.
The Racers will conduct their first two-a-day session Monday with the first practice set for 8:15 a.m. and the afternoon practice set for 4:05 p.m.
Head Coach Matt Griffin
On Sunday's Practice:
“Very competitive right from the start. The kids were spirited from start to finish and that was really good because the heat was really something else. They battled through it without complaining. I think our conditioning is excellent. As of right now, we haven't had anything heat related, which is outstanding.”
“We have to battle through camp. There is no light at the end of the tunnel. The tunnel is just dark and dreary right now. It's that time of year where we have to keep battling.”
On What He Wanted to See Coming Out on Day 2:
“Improvement. What you never want to see as a coach or a teacher is to see them make the same mistake twice. Whatever we didn't do properly the first day, we wanted to correct on day two.”
“The constant improvement from day to day comes from their constant work ethic and I think we have some coaches that press them to be like that.”
On What He Wants to See With Monday's Two Practices:
“The morning is probably as much kicking game as anything. What I would like to see is consistency from start to finish. I don't want anybody getting into any kind of mode that we just have to get through it. I want to make sure they understand to take care of the task at hand, which I think our kids do, and be consistent from the beginning of the day right until tomorrow night at 10 o'clock when they go to bed”
