STORY LINES
- The Racers play their first road contest of the 2009 season. The contest against North Carolina State marks the first time the Racers will play a team from the ACC.
- NC State quarterback Russell Wilson is on the watch list for the Maxwell and O'Brien Awards. The Maxwell is award to college football's most outstanding player, while the O'Brien honors the nation's top quarterback.
- Junior wide receiver Marcus Harris was named The Sports Network FCS Special Teams Player of the Week and OVC Specialist of the Week after returning a kickoff and a punt for touchdown against Kentucky Wesleyan. It marked the first time a Racer player has returned a kickoff and punt for touchdown in the same game.
- The Racers scored in seven different ways against Kentucky Wesleyan, including setting a new school record with two safeties in the first half. The defense scored a TD in the season opener for the second-straight season.
- The Racer offense failed to score a touchdown in either game against a FBS opponent in 2008.
About the Opponent
North Carolina State enters the contest with a record of 0-1 after dropping a 7-3 decision to South Carolina on Sept. 3.
The Pack are playing their second game against OVC team. NCSU defeated Eastern Kentucky 54-10 in 2005
NCSU was picked to finish fourth in the ACC preseason polls.
Quarterback Russell finished third in the ACC Preseason Player of the Year voting.
The Wolfpack offense managed 133 yards of total offense (59 rushing/74 passing).
Wilson was 12-for-23 for 74 yards. The sophomore has not thrown an interception in 272 pass attempts, the third longest streak in NCAA history.
Running back Jamelle Eugene paced the ground attack with 36 yards. Toney Baker added 24 yards on eight carries.
Kicker Josh Czajkowski scored the only points for the Wolfpack by connecting on a 43-yard field goal with 56 seconds remaining in the third quarter.
The Pack defense held the Gamecocks scoreless after giving up a touchdown on the opening drive, one that only went 14 yards after a turnover.
Ray Michel led the defense with 11 tackles and a quarterback hurry.

Captains for the North Carolina State game are defensive end Austen Lane and offensive tackle Stephen Huff.
FBS Opponents
Murray State did not enjoy much success against FBS teams in 2008 as the Racers failed to score a touchdown against Indiana and Western Kentucky. The Racers only touchdown came on Will Werner's 54-yard interception return against WKU. MSU is being outscored 215-29 in the Matt Griffin era.
