Trus Shares First - MSU Third At Cincy Fall Classic

The Murray State Women's Golf squad began play Monday in the University of Cincinnati Fall Classic at Elk Run GC in Cincinnati, Ohio.
The Racers turned in a solid 317 in round one and stood in fourth place in a field of 14 teams only four shots off the lead of Morehead State at 313. Xavier held down second at 314 and Akron had third place at 315.
MSU's Joyce Trus fired a two-over 74 to take a share of the lead in the medalist race, while Alex Hinteregger carded a 77 and had fifth place. Andrea Downer and Caroline Lagerborg shared 41st place in the field of 90 competitors after each recorded an 83. Megan McKinney was in 46th place with an 84.
Morgan Cross is playing the event as an individual and fired an 80 for a spot in 20th place.
The Racers were in front of fifth place Memphis at 319, and sixth place Cincinnati at 320.
Toledo (324), Southern Mississippi (324), Evansville (335), and Texas Pan-American (336) made up the rest of the top-10 teams, while Eastern Kentucky had 11th place at 340, with Detroit Mercy (35), Oakland (345), and IPFW (389) rounding out the field.
Trus shared first place with Akron's Kristen Hill.
Darkness stopped play before the second round could be completed on the Elk Run course playing to a par of 72 and 6,186 yards.
The event ends Tuesday with the completion of round two in the morning with the final 18 holes in the afternoon.
