The Murray State Racers travel to the Show Me Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo., Saturday for a 7:45 p.m. tip off with the Southeast Missouri State Redhawks in what is the 62nd meeting in the series that started in 1931. MSU enters the contest on an eight-game winning streak after Thursday's 60-51 win at Eastern Illinois. The win was the Racers' fourth consecutive away from home and the fifth straight in Ohio Valley Conference games. The Racers used an 8-0 run in the mid-second half to win against the Panthers and run their record to 17-3 and 9-0 in the OVC. MSU is three wins from the programs' 23rd 20-win season. MSU's start to the season is the best since the 1998-99 squad started 18-2 and 13-0.
The Racers are performing at a high level on both ends of the floor. In fact, out of the 31 NCAA D-I conferences, Murray State is only team leading their league in both scoring offense (78.7 ppg) and scoring defense (61.2). The Racers have led the OVC in both categories the entire season. Kansas (Big-12), Saint Mary's (West Coast), Quinnipiac (Northeastern), Akron (MAC), BYU (Mountain West) and Prairie View A&M (SWAC) are schools that are close to joining MSU.
The Racers' 9-0 OVC mark is the best among all NCAA D-I conferences along with Siena who also sports a 9-0 record in the Metro Atlantic Conference. Oakland of the Summit league and Butler of the Horizon League are both 8-0.
MSU also leads the OVC defending all field goals and three-point shots and also leads the league in blocked shots and steals. The Racers have held opponents to less than 40 percent shooting this season 14 times. MSU has also held their opponent's leading scorer under his average in 18 of 20 games this season.
