Racers Take Second At Skyhawk Classic - Newcomb Ties For Title

SKYHAWK CLASSIC RESULTS
The Murray State's Patrick Newcomb finished in a tie for the medalist title and the Racer men's golf team finished second Tuesday at the UTM Skyhawk Classic at Paris Landing State Park in Paris, Tenn.
The Racers saw Newcomb fire rounds of 71-68-70=209 which was good enough to tie Bethel's Josh Thomas. However, the title was decided on a count-back and Newcomb officially finished second.
MSU failed to make any ground on four-time champion Central Arkansas after starting the final round six shots behind. The Racers took second place in the field of 15 teams with rounds of 286-278-292=856, while the Bears posted 842.
After Newcomb's tie for first, Hunter Ford had a spot in 11th place in the field of 83 players with rounds of 70-69-75=214, while Cameron Carrico placed 13th with 72-68-75=215. Dustin Gosser was in 20th place with scores of 73-73-72=218, while
William Hunt placed 67th with scores of 83-73-75=231.
Hunter York was the leader of MSU's second squad event with a fourth place showing on scores of 72-71-69=212, while Lars King was in 52nd place with scores of 74-73-80=227. Tyler Brown placed 62nd with scores of 74-75-80=229 and grant Price was in 67th place with scores of 76-75-80=231.
MSU's second squad placed 12th in the event with scores of 296-294-309=899.
UTM (863) had third place with Evansville (878), Union (TN) (880), John A. Logan (881), Southern Illinois (883) and Jackson State (885) making up the top-7.
The Racers' next event is the Austin Peay Intercollegiate Oct.18-19 at The Links at Novadel GC in Hopkinsville, Ky.
