APSU Intercollegiate Results
The Murray State men's golf team fired rounds of 278-287=565 for a spot in seventh place a field of 17 teams at the APSU Intercollegiate being played at the Links at Novadel GC in Hopkinsville, Ky.
Normally a score like that (which is 11-under-par) would give the Racers a comfortable spot in first place, but not this time.
The Racers were chasing a red-hot Jacksonville State team that had two players shoot rounds of 62 and 64 in the afternoon.
The Racers were two shots behind UT Martin (563), while JSU had the lead (542) on the Novadel course that is playing to a par of 72 and 6,841 yards.
MSU's Cameron Carrico fired rounds of 67-69=136 good for a spot in fourth place in the field of 90 players.
Hunter Ford was in 20th place with scores of 71-70=141, while Patrick Newcomb had a spot in 31st place with rounds of 69-73=142. Dustin Gosser had scores of 71-75=146, while William Hunt was in 82nd place with rounds of 77-82=159.
Hunter York is playing the event for MSU as an individual and was in 82nd place with scores of 77-75=152.
Bowling Green was in second place at 557, with Samford (560), Eastern Illinois (561), Oakland (562), Murray State (565), Troy (566) and Towson (567) making up the top-9 teams. Eastern Kentucky, Tennessee Tech, Austin Peay and Tennessee State all shared 10th place at 568. Future Ohio Valley Conference team SIUE was in 14th at 579, with Morehead State (583), Western Illinois (588) and Belmont (589) rounding out the field.
The APSU event is a fall preview of next April's OVC tournament because every one of the 10 teams in the league are playing at Novadel this week. MSU won the OVC title last spring for the first time since 1991.
The 54-hole event finishes with a shotgun start Tuesday morning in Hopkinsville.
