Breds have early-season 12-game home stand
2011 Schedule
A pair of non-conference weekend series at UNC Asheville and Georgia State, coupled with an early-season 12-game home stand, highlight the 2011 Murray State Baseball schedule announced by head coach Rob McDonald on Thursday.
“We are really excited about the opportunity to go play some teams that we haven't played before in UNC Asheville and Georgia State,” said McDonald. “We feel that our schedule is one that will be very competitive and fans will have plenty of opportunity to see the Breds play at home early this season.”
The Breds open the 2011 season on Feb. 18-20 with a three-game road series at UNC Asheville. After a midweek game at Arkansas State, MSU will begin a 12-game home stand at Johnny Reagan Field.
The home stand begins with a weekend series with Bowling Green (Feb. 25-27), and is followed up with a midweek game against ASU (March 2), a four-game series with North Dakota State (March 4-6), Belmont on March 9, and closes with a four-game set with IPFW (March 11-13).
MSU heads on the road for spring break as they travel to face Kentucky on March 15, before traveling to face Georgia State on March 18-20.
The Breds open Ohio Valley Conference action on March 26-27 as they play host to Austin Peay. The OVC home schedule includes series against Jacksonville State (April 9-10), Southeast Missouri (April 30-May 1) and Tennessee Tech (May 20-21). Road series are at UT Martin (April 2-3), Eastern Illinois (April 22-23), Eastern Kentucky (May 7-8) and Morehead State (May 14-15).
The remainder of the Breds schedule includes home-and-home games with Evansville, as well as road games at Southern Illinois (April 6) and Western Kentucky (April 13). MSU will also host SIU Edwardsville in a non-conference series April 16-17.
The 2011 OVC Tournament will again be held at Pringles Park in Jackson, Tenn. on May 25-28.
The Breds finished the 2010 season with an overall record of 28-28-1, and a 12-8-1 mark in OVC action.
