OVC Preseason Poll Released at Annual Media Day

The league's coaches and SID's have picked the Racers to finish sixth (83 points) in the 2010-11 Preseason Poll. However, the team always has higher expectations.
Eastern Illinois was picked as the preseason favorite (151) and earned 10 first-place votes. Morehead State was picked to finish second (147) and received seven first-place votes, while Austin Peay earned the No. 3 spot (120), with three first-place votes. Tennessee Tech (117) and UT Martin (97) round out the spots above MSU, with Eastern Kentucky (79), Tennessee State (45), Jacksonville State (31) and Southeast Missouri (30) rounding out the poll.
Junior Rachael Isom earned individual distinction as a member of the 10-member Preseason All-OVC Team. Isom finished the 2009-10 campaign averaging 11.9 points and 3.3 rebounds per game for MSU.
The OVC held this season's media day in Municipal Auditorium, the site of the 2011 Championship tournament, March 2-5. At Media Day the OVC unveiled the new championship logo and the newly repainted floor that is branded with the OVC logo.
This year the top two teams in the regular-season standings will earn byes into the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds. This is the first time in over a decade that the conference will bring all eight teams to one venue for the entire tournament, as in the past the first-round games have been played on campus sites.
The last time that the OVC tournament was contested in Municipal Auditorium was in the 2007-08 campaign when the Racers claimed their first OVC Championship with a 69-58 victory over Eastern Illinois.
The Racers will continue to get ready for the start of the 2010-11 season when they host St. Catharine (Nov. 13) and Mid-Continent (Nov. 15) at the CFSB Center.
