Cross Country Heads to OVC Championships

The Murray State men/s and women's cross country teams conclude Ohio Valley Conference action this weekend with Saturday's OVC Championship, hosted by Tennessee Tech at Southern Hills Golf Course. The women's 5k will kick the day off at 9 a.m. with the men taking to the course for the 8k at 9:45 a.m.
The women return to the site of their team championship this season at the Tennessee Tech Invite four weeks ago. The Racers placed five runners in the top 10 on their way to taking top honors against a field that included OVC-members Tennessee Tech, UT-Martin, Tennessee State as well as Alabama A&M.
Senior Katelyn Jones took top individual honors, pacing the field with a time of 19:21. Teammates Asenath NaAman and Kayla Crusham followed shortly behind in third and fourth with Bernadette Catron running in eighth and Karissa Magnusson placing ninth.
MSU followed the win up with a second place two weeks ago at the Evansville Invitational. NaAman led the Racers with a time of 18:54.34 to finish in eighth. Jones finished one spot behind in ninth, completing the 5k course in 18:56.20. Crusham followed seven places back, finishing with a time of 19:12.81 to place in 16th. Magnuson placed 27th in 19:31.07 Catron two spots behind in 29th with a time of 19:37.54. Bridget Stitchnot finished in 19:49.31 to place in 33rd with Jami Kloenne running in 20:44.31 to come in 54th as the final Murray State entry to count towards the team total as Kourtney Covatch (22:10.19) and Shelby Jenkins (22:22.74) rounded out the MSU entries.
Derek Perry led the men's squad, finishing in 27:14.41 to place in 63rd. Jordan Althoff finished in 96th with a time of 28:40.90 on the 8k circuit. Ryan Johnson finished 10 spots behind Althoff, scoring in 106th in 29:12.45. Andy Pack ran in 29:16.95 to finish two spots behind in 108th. Remi DoMoney (30:36.06) and Trent Scott (38:22.60) were the final Racer runners on the men's side.
Both teams will return to action in two weeks at the NCAA Southeast Regional in Louisville, Ky.
