MSU-TCU Results
The Murray State Rifle team went into Saturday's match with the defending national champion Texas Christian, ranked fifth in the nation when the event started at the
Pat Spurgin Rifle Range in Murray, Ky.
At the end of the day, the Racers had given TCU a tough test indeed.
TCU needed a Spurgin Range smallbore record to hold off the Racers, 4673-4668.
Murray State's 4668 was a program record aggregate score and their 2308 smallbore and 2360 air rifle scores also set new team marks.
“This is a very important three week stretch for us,” MSU Coach Alan Lollar said.
“We went to Lexington last week and competed well against UK, with a season high. This week we hosted TCU, arguably the best team in the country at this time, and played them to a five point match and we won air rifle by 11.”
“Next week we travel to West Virginia, a traditional powerhouse in NCAA Rifle and one of the top three team in the nation right now.”
Emily Quiner posted a 581 smallbore before tying her personal best air rifle score at 593. Katelyn Cleven matched her best in smallbore score at 578, while shooting a 592 in air rifle. Nehemiah Gillman scored a personal best in smallbore at 581, and added a 589 air rifle. Kyle Donnan shot a 586 air rifle score, while Mike
Burzynski had a personal best 575 in air rifle.
“We asked our shooters to respond to the challenge of competing against the best there is,” Lollar added. “For two weeks, they have rose to the challenge like champions.”
On the day against TCU, the Racers set or tied four personal bests
“I can't say enough about this team,” Lollar said. “It's an exciting time to be a shooter at Murray State.”
The Racers stretch of competing against the best in the nation continues at West Virginia Sunday in Morgantown, W. Va.
