Racers Hold Four-Shot Lead At MSU Invitational

MSU INVITATIONAL RD2 RESULTS
The Murray State men's golf squad has some work to do to make it seven straight MSU Invitational championships Tuesday when they begin the final 18 holes with a four shot lead over Belmont at Miller Memorial GC in Murray, Ky.
The Racers added 11 shots to their morning round of 282 with an afternoon 293 which was good for a 575 total and a four-shot lead over Belmont at 579.
Hunter Ford and William Hunt were the top players for the Racers in day one as they shared second place in the field of 63 competitors. Ford had scores of 70-73=143, while Hunt carded scores of 71-72=143.
MSU's Cameron Carrico and Patrick Newcomb shared ninth place. Carrico had scores of 74-72=146, with Newcomb carding scores of 70-76=146. Dustin Gosser was in 20th place with scores of 71-78=149.
The Racers' second squad is in fourth place after scores of 294-299=593, behind third place UT Martin at 590. Tennessee Tech (595), Morehead State (599), Union (TN) (603), Lambuth (612), Lipscomb (617), UTM second team (622), Bethel (649), Brescia (650) rounded out the field.
A pair of brothers are playing in the same event as college players for the first time. MSU's Cameron Carrico, a senior, is in the event while his brother, Chase,is a freshman from Brescia. The brothers are from Owensboro, Ky.
The Racers go into the final 18 holes looking to win the title of their home tournament for a seventh straight season since winning for the first time in 2004.
The course at Miller Memorial is playing to a par of 71 for the MSU Invitational and 6,601 yards.
The final round of the event begins at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.
