Racers Take 10-shot Lead At MSU Invitational

MSU INVITATIONAL RD1 SCORES
The Murray State men's golf team opened their own MSU Invitational with a strong 282 and a 10-shot lead after the first round of the 54-hole event being played at Miller Memorial GC in Murray, Ky.
The Racers have won all six of their home tournaments since the event was started in 2004 and this time they're trying for seven straight.
MSU had the lead by 10 shots over second place Belmont who carded a 292, while Murray State's second squad was in third place at 294.
Patrick Newcomb and Hunter Ford paced the MSU attack with a pair of 1-under-par 70's and shared second place in the field of 63 competitors. William Hunt and Dustin Gosser shared sixth place each finishing with a 71. Cameron Carrico had a 74 and was in 17th place.
The MSU second team was led by Hunter York who was in eighth place with a 72, while Lars King and Tyler Brown shared 11th place with a 73. Grant Price had a 76 and was in 27th place.
Union (TN) was in fourth place with a 297, while Tennessee Tech was in fifth place after a 298. UT Martin had a 299 for a spot in sixth place with Morehead State (302), UTM second team (305), Lambuth (308), Bethel (319) and Brescia 335 rounding out the field.
MSU's Cameron Carrico was playing in the same event with his brother for the first time as a collegiate. His brother Chase Carrico, a freshman at Brescia, had a first round 80.
The first round leader in the medalist race and one shot ahead of MSU's Newcomb and Ford, was Tennessee Tech's Lee Maxwell with a 2-under-par 69.
