The Murray State men's basketball team received more preseason accolades recently when Lindy's Sports college basketball magazine ranked the Racers 31st in their preseason rankings, representing MSU's highest in the preseason.
Previously, Murray State was picked 35th by The Sporting News, 41st by Collegehoopsnet.com and 47th by CollegeInsider.com.
Lindy's also picked the Racers as the favorite in the Ohio Valley Conference ahead of Morehead State. The Racers and Eagles met last spring in the OVC Tournament championship game, which MSU won 62-51 to advance to their 14th NCAA Tournament.
Lindy's also has Eastern Illinois ranked third followed by Austin Peay (4), Eastern Kentucky (5), Tennessee State (6), Tennessee Tech (7), Jacksonville State (8), Southeast Missouri (9) and UT Martin (10).
MSU opens the 2010-11 season (Nov. 9) at CFSB Center in an exhibition game against Freed-Hardeman, before hosting East Tennessee State (Nov. 15) in the season opener. MSU's first road contest is at Mississippi (Nov. 17).
The Racers are also part of the prestigious 76 Classic played Thanksgiving Week in Anaheim, Calif., where MSU faces off with Stanford Nov. 25 at the Anaheim Convention Center. MSU plays either UNLV or Tulsa in their second 76 Classic game Nov. 26.
The Racers return eight major contributors including All-OVC selections B.J. Jenkins, Isacc Miles and Isaiah Canaan, who was named OVC Freshman of the Year. Junior forward Ivan Aska also returns after earning All-NABC District-19 honors last season.
