Game Notes
The Racers are coming off a thrilling 74-72 win Thursday at Eastern Kentucky in which they erased a 14-point first half deficit and didn't take the lead for good until the game was well inside the 2:00 mark of the second half.
The Racers and Colonels each had 23 field goals, each had six three-point baskets, but the difference in the game was at the free throw line where MSU hit 22 to EKU's 20.
MSU broke out of its shooting slump in the game hitting 23-47 for a tick under 49 percent, their best in six games this season against D-I teams. MSU's 40 percent shooting against Stanford (Nov. 25) was their previous best.
With the win at EKU, MSU Head Coach Billy Kennedy moved closer to his 100th career win as MSU coach and 200th of his career. He is now 88-47 (.651) in his fifth season with the Racers and 192-173 (.526) in his 13th season which also includes stops at Centenary and Southeastern Louisiana.
Kennedy was the 2010 OVC Coach of the Year after leading the Racers to a school and league record 31 wins that included the first win for MSU in the NCAA Tournament since 1988 when they took down Vanderbilt in the first round in San Jose, Calif.
