Box Score
The Murray State offense scored at least one run in six of the eight innings in taking the rubber match of the three-game series with Saint Louis, 12-2, on a rainy Sunday afternoon at Reagan Field.
The Breds (6-8) got on the board in the first as Zach Noonan started the game with a double to right center and scored on Wes Cunningham's double to deep right center.
The Billikens (8-8) got a run back in the second as Ben Bratten doubled to right center and scored on Zach Miller's single to left.
MSU regained the lead in the second as Bryan Propst hit a solo home run to right field, his fifth of the season.
SLU tied the game again in the third as Jon Myers singled to left and scored on Mike Levine's double to right center.
A pair of errors proved costly for the Billikens in the fourth as it helped the Breds push across three unearned runs in the frame. Kyle Tiernan walked with one out and went to third when Elliot Frey's two-out grounder to third was thrown into right field on the throw to second. Cunningham was intentionally walked, before Jason Laws hit a grounder to second that was misplayed and two runners crossed the plate. Colton Moore followed with an RBI double down the left-field line and it took a perfect relay throw to stop a second run from scoring on the play.
The Breds added to the lead in the fifth as Jonathan Craycraft and Bryan Propst singled to left field to start the inning. With one out, Kyle Tiernan delivered an RBI single through the right side. A passed ball allowed a second run of the inning to cross the plate.
MSU broke the game wide open in the sixth as they collected six hits and scored four runs, all with two outs. Moore and Craycraft started the rally with singles, before Propst plated a run with a double to right center. Cory Hodskins followed with a run-scoring single through the left side and took second on the throw. Tiernan drove in two runners with a single up the middle.
The Breds their last run in the eighth as Noonan was hit by a pitch and Frey walked with two outs. Cunningham drove in Noonan with a single through the right side.
Alex Love (1-0) picked up his first victory of the season after tossing 5.1 innings of two-hit relief. Jerry Mancusso (1-1) took the loss after allowing 11 runs, eight earned, on 13 hits over 5.2 innings.
Moore led the Breds 17-hit attack by going 4-for-6 with a pair of doubles and an RBI. Noonan and Propst added three hits, while Cunningham, Craycraft and Tiernan each collected two.
The Breds return to action tomorrow afternoon as they travel to take on #22 Kentucky at 3 p.m. central time.
