Racers Win MSU Spring Invitational Championship

The Murray State women's golf team won the championship of their own NewWave Communications MSU Spring Invitational Tuesday at a windy and cold Miller Memorial GC in Murray, Ky.
The Racers fired a second round 320 to pair with a 318 from Monday for a 36-hole total of 638.
Austin Peay finished as the runner-up with scores of 320-334=654.
The Racers were led by Andrea Downer who placed second in the field of 34 players with scores of 76-80=156, one off the winner of the medalist honor, Austin Peay's Chelsea Harris who finished at 155.
MSU's Joyce Trus, playing as an individual, also tied for second with Downer with scores of 76-80=156.
Other MSU finishes included, Megan McKinney who rallied to a fourth place showing after scores of 82-76=158, while Caroline Lagerborg placed sixth with rounds of 81-81=162. Alex Hintergger was 12th with scores of 79-88=167, as was Morgan Cross with scores of 84-83=167.
Alex Lennartsson also played as an individual for MSU and finished 12th with scores of 81-86=167. Jilian Brake was 28th with scores of 91-87=178.
WKU was third at 662, while SIUE (673) and Lipscomb (725) rounded out the field.
Miller Memorial played 6,017 yards for the event and to a par of 72.
The Racers' next competition is Mar. 11-12 at the El Diablo Invitational Ocala, Fla., at the El Diablo GC.
