Cunningham Named OVC Hitter of the Week

After putting on a hitting display in leading Murray State to a 5-0 week, first baseman Wes Cunningham was named the Ohio Valley Conference Hitter of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
Cunningham (Louisville, Ky.) ran his streak to nine-straight multi-hit games after going 14-for-21 (.667) with two doubles, four home runs, 12 RBIs and 13 runs scored. He began the week by leading the Breds to a victory over #20 Kentucky by going 3-for-5 with a home run and four RBIs. With the game tied 1-1 in the third inning, Cunningham hit a three-run homer to left center to give the Breds the lead for good. He came back the next inning and delivered an RBI single to right field.
He continued to swing the bat as the Breds returned to Reagan Field, as he went 3-for-5 with a double and two RBIs in the 8-3 victory over Southern Illinois.
The numbers continued to get better in the weekend series against Mid-Continent. In the first game of a doubleheader, Cunningham went 2-for-3 with a pair of home runs, four RBIs and three runs scored. He came back in the second game and went 2-for-3 with a double, home run, two RBIs and three runs scored.
Cunningham's week ended by going 4-for-5 with a career-best five runs scored in the 25-15 victory over MCU.
On the season, Cunningham is hitting .471 with seven doubles, nine home runs, 29 RBIs and 28 runs scored. He has started all 19 games, hitting safely in 17, including 15 multi-hit games. He also has nine games with at least two RBIs.
