Newcomb Keeps 3rd At FAU Spring Break Championship

The Murray State Racers finished the second round of the FAU Spring Break Championship in 11th place after they bettered their scored by five shots from the first round at Gleneagles CC in Delray Beach, Fla.
MSU carded a 293 Saturday after shooting a 298 Friday for a 591 total.
Nick Newcomb recorded a 1-under 70 after a first round 68 for a 138 total and a spot in third place in the field of 93 competitors, while brother Patrick Newcomb moved from 60th to 46th after a 72. Coupled with his first round 77, he has a 149 total.
MSU's Chris Griffin was in 52nd place after scores of 76-74=150, while Cameron Carrico had scores of 79-77=156 for a spot in 81st place. Jared Wolfe was in 89th place after scores of 77-83=160.
MSU was ahead of South Florida (594) and Wisconsin (600).
Illinois was the 36-hole leader at 561 with Penn State in second place at 573.
The final round begins Sunday at 8:30 a.m. central time.
