Racers Compete Well In Round-1 At OVC Women's Golf Tourney

The Murray State Racers fired a first round 306 Thursday and are two shots off the lead of the 2010 Ohio Valley Conference Women's Golf Championship at GreyStone GC in Dickson, Tenn.
The Racers' 306 was just behind co-leaders Morehead State and Jacksonville State each at 304.
MSU got a 76 each from Andrea Downer and Megan McKinney, to go with a 77 from Morgan Cross and Caroline Lagerborg. Joyce Trus fired a 78.
Austin Peay was in fourth place at 308, while Eastern Illinois was in fifth at 315. Eastern Kentucky (318), Tennessee Tech (327) and Tennessee State (374) rounded out the field.
MSU head coach Velvet Milkman was pleased with the way her squad performed in round one.
"I thought we were focused on what we wanted to accomplish and more importantly, how we need to play this course," Milkman said. "We have a long way to go, so I hope to see us come out in round two and compete the way we did today."
The second round of the 54-hole event begins at 8:30 a.m. Friday on the GreyStone course that is playing 6,049 yards and to a par of 72.
MSU, who was paired with Jacksonville State and Morehead State today, will also play with them in round two.
Here are the tee times for the Racers: Joyce Trus (10:10 a.m.), Caroline Lagerborg (10:20 a.m.), Morgan Cross to (10:30 a.m.), Andrea Downer (10:50 a.m.).

NOTE: The OVC Tournament committee made a move after the awards banquet to try and beat the bad weather that is predicted to move in the area on Saturday. After Friday's second round is complete, the field of 45 players will go back out and play nine holes of the third and final round with plans to play the rest of it Saturday before the rain arrives.
