Nick Newcomb Leads Five Racers On All-OVC Men's Golf Team

The Murray State Racers placed five student-athletes on the 2010 All-Ohio Valley Conference Men's Golf Team at an awards banquet held at the OVC Tournament in Dickson, Tenn., at GreyStone GC.
Senior Nick Newcomb was named to the All-OVC First Team, with seniors Jared Wolfe and Chris Griffin and junior Cameron Carrico making the All-OVC Second Team. Freshman Patrick Newcomb earned All-OVC Newcomer Team honors.
"Nick, Chris, Jared and Cameron have played some great golf this season," MSU head coach Eddie Hunt said. "It's especially pleasing to see the seniors get all-league recognition and it's nice to see Patrick have the kind of freshman season he has had and get recognized for it."
Nick Newcomb
A senior from Benton, Ky., Newcomb led the OVC in scoring average at 72.4 and had 14 sub-par rounds in 32 this season. His 66 in the UTM Skyhawk Classic last Oct., was tied for third best in the league. Newcomb posted six top-10 finishes including a pair of fifth-place showings coming into the OVC Championship at the TSU Big Blue Intercollegiate April 6, and the UK Bluegrass Invitational April 11. In 2008, he was named to the All-OVC Newcomer and All-OVC Second Team when he was also the OVC Medalist. He was named to the All-OVC First Team in 2009.
Cameron Carrico
Carrico, a junior from Owensboro, Ky., and was third in the OVC with a 72.8 scoring average with 13 rounds of 31 this season under par. His 66 at the UK Bluegrass Invitational April 11 was tied for third best in the league. He was the OVC Freshman of the Year in 2008 and this makes the second time he has been named to the All-OVC Second Team. Carrico enters the OVC Championship coming off a fifth place showing at the TSU event and a third place finish at the UK Tournament.
Chris Griffin
Griffin, a senior from Paducah, Ky., earns All-OVC honors for the first time in his MSU career with a second-team selection. He had a scoring average of 74.1 ranked him eigthth in the OVC as he also turned in four top-15 finishes in the 2009-10 season.
Jared Wolfe
Wolfe, a senior from Louisville, Ky., had a scoring average of 73.8 which ranked seventh in the OVC and he had 10 rounds of the 31 this season under par. This is his first All-OVC honor as he enters the conference final coming off a 17th place finish at the UK event. His 66 in the UTM Skyhawk Classic last Oct., was tied for third best in the league. He was named to the All-OVC Tournament Team in 2009.
Patrick Newcomb
Newcomb is a freshman and the brother of senior Nick on the Racer team. He earned All-OVC Newcomer Team honors after he played 32 rounds his first season with a 75.3 scoring average, which was 21st in the league and third-best of any freshman. Newcomb had five rounds this season of par or better and had a low round of 70 twice at the MSU Invitational and the UTM Skyhawk Invitational last Oct.
"We've had a good season so it's nice to see some of our guys get the recognition they deserve," MSU head coach Eddie Hunt said. "The All-OVC team is filled with great players and there are many more in our league."
The OVC Player and Coach of the Year awards will be announced on Wednesday afternoon following the final round of play at the championship.
