Racers Jump To Front At OVC Men's Golf Championship

The Murray State Racers turned in a 286 to take an eight-shot lead after the first round of the 2010 Ohio Valley Conference Men's Golf Championship at GreyStone GC in Dickson, Tenn.
The Racers' 286 gave them the lead over second place UT Martin who carded a 294.
"I'm excited about the start we put together," MSU head coach Eddie Hunt said. "But we have to stay focused and come out tomorrow and put up another good score because there are great teams in this event and no one is out of it yet."
Jacksonville State had third place at 295, while defending champion Austin Peay was in fourth at 296.
The Racers were led in round one by Cameron Carrico's 2-under-par 70 as he earned a tie for first in the field of 45 competitors with Tennessee State's Chris Seibel.
MSU's Chris Griffin carded a 1-under-par 71 to get a spot in third place, while Patrick Newcomb was in ninth place after an even-par 72. Nick Newcomb and Jared Wolfe each had a 1-over-par 73 and shared ninth place.
The Racers combined for 19 birdies in round one from their five-man squad, the best in the field of nine teams.
The second round of the 54-hole OVC challenge starts at 8 a.m. Tuesday morning. Murray State's five-man lineup will play with competitors from UT Martin and Jacksonville State.
MSU's Jared Wolfe starts at 9:40 a.m., with Nick Newcomb going at 9:50 a.m. Patrick Newcomb has the 10:00 a.m. slot, with Chris Griffin teeing off at 10:10 a.m. and Cameron Carrico at 10:20 a.m.
The GreyStone GC is playing to 6,858 yards and par of 72.
