WKU Hands Breds 12-2 Defeat

Murray State saw its five-game winning streak come to an end Tuesday evening as WKU handed the Breds a 12-2 defeat at Nick Denes Field in Bowling Green.
The Breds (16-12) got on the board in the second as Elliot Frey drew a walk and went to second when Brandon Elliott was hit by a pitch. With two outs, Jonathan Craycraft singled through the right side, scoring Frey from second.
WKU (23-7) responded in the home-half of the inning with four runs of their own. Kory Petri started the rally with a double just inside the bag at first before a pair of walks loaded the bases. Jared Andreoli drove in two runs with a single through the right side. After a wild pitch scored the third run, Kes Carter delivered a run-scoring double down the right-field line.
The Hilltoppers only managed one hit in the fifth, but were able to push across three runs in the frame. Three walks, one intentional, loaded the bases, with one out. Right hander Joe Major got the ground ball he needed, but the ball eluded the glove of the second baseman and allowed two runs to score. Ryan Huck plated the third run with a single up the middle.
WKU added to the lead in the fifth on a Robbins solo home run down the left-field line.
MSU got the run back in the sixth on a solo home run to left by Bryan Propst, his ninth of the season.
The Toppers added to the lead in the seventh as they got an RBI triple from Matt Payton. The second error of the game allowed the second run of the innning to score.
Marc Harmon (1-4) took the loss after allowing four runs on four hits and four walks in two innings. Taylor Haydel (2-1) earned the victory after allowing just one run on three hits and four strikeouts over 5.1 innings.
Craycraft finished the game going 2-for-2 with a walk and an RBI.
The Breds return to the diamond Saturday afternoon as they open a three-game Ohio Valley Conferece road series at Jacksonville State. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
