The Murray State softball team saw three players earn Ohio Valley Conference honors during their first collegiate season. Freshman Ellyn Troup and junior Jenna Bradley both earned All-OVC Second Team and All-Newcomer honors, while sophomore Megan Glosser also earned a position on the All-Newcomer Team.
Troup, a native of Placentia, Calif., was a staple in the infield for the Racers (22-27, 11-11 OVC) as a first baseman or a catcher. She started in all 49 of MSU's games during the regular season and is currently second on the team with a .294 batting average. Troup is second on the team in hits (40) and RBIs (27) and third in home runs (4) and doubles (5). She had recorded a team-best 296 put outs and added 29 assists.
Bradley is the team's leader in most categories, including home runs (12), RBIs (48) and slugging percentage (.559). The Trilla, Ill., native finished the regular season with her first career grand slam and her 12th home run of the season, to put her second in the OVC for home runs. Bradley finished first in the OVC with her 48 RBIs. She finished the year with a .252 batting average after starting in center field in all 49 games for the Racers this season. Bradley has also been key on defense for MSU, with 50 put outs and six assists.
Glosser, a native of Mattoon, Ill., is the team's leader at the plate with a .306 batting average. She earned a spot on the OVC All-Newcomer Team as a utility player, as she has played several positions on the field this season before settling into the role as the team's shortstop. Glosser leads the team with 44 hits and 37 runs. She has been a key of defense as well, with 56 put outs and 44 assists.
The Racers, who earned the No. 5 seed, will start the 2010 OVC Championship against No. 4 Eastern Illinois, Thursday, May 13 at Bettye Giles Field in Martin, Tenn. at 1:30 p.m. The winner of that game will move on to face No. 1 UT Martin at 6:30 p.m. Thursday night.
