Box Score
With the score tied 4-4 heading into the eighth inning on Saturday afternoon, mother nature stepped in and forced the suspension of Murray State's game against Morehead State. Unfortunately, the rains never let up and the game was forced to be called. It marks the second-straight season that the Breds have had an Ohio Valley Conference game end in a tie.
The Breds (25-22-1, 12-5-1 OVC) got on the board in the first inning as Brandon Elliott singled up the middle with one out. After stealing second and going to third on the throwing error by the catcher, Elliott scored when Bryan Propst singled over the head of the third baseman.
The Eagles ( 24-22-1, 6-9-1 OVC) gained the lead in the fifth as Travis Redmon singled up the middle and scored on J.D. Ashbrook's two-run homer to left field.
MUR took advantage of a fielding error in the fifth to regain the lead. Kyle Tiernan's ground ball to start the inning went through the legs of the first baseman. Drew Pixley followed with a single down the left-field line that put runners on the corners. Tiernan scored with a head first slide around the catcher on a bunt off the bat of Elliot Frey. Zach Noonan walked to load the bases and Wes Cunningham drove in the second run with a sacrifice fly to left field. Propst added another run with a single through the left side.
MOR got a run back in the sixth as Michael Bottoms doubled down the left-field line and scored on Taylor Davis' ground out to short.
The Eagles tied the game in the top of the seventh as a pair of singles and an intentional walk loaded the bases with two outs. The weather played a factor on the next pitch as the ball was wet and sailed to the backstop and allowed the tying run to score.
Jake Donze tossed his fourth complete game of the season after allowing four runs on eight hits and five strikeouts over seven innings. Matthew Robertson also tossed a complete game, surrendering four runs, all unearned, on seven hits and six strikeouts in seven innings.
Propst paced the offense by going 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs. Pixley also went 2-for-3.
The Breds return to action Tuesday evening as they play host to Kentucky at Brooks Stadium in Paducah. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
