5/21/2010 5:00:00 PM | Men's Golf
The Murray State Racers and the rest of the field in the Notre Dame Region of the 2010 NCAA Men's Golf Championship went into a rain delay at 1:20 p.m. eastern time and play was suspended for the rest of the day at 4:33 p.m.
NCAA Tournament officials plan for all players who didn't finish the second round to do so at 8:00 a.m. Saturday morning.
Once the second round is complete, the field of 14 teams will immediately begin the third and final round and continue to the finish without re-pairing the playing groups.
When the horn sounded to halt play Friday afternoon, Nick Newcomb was the only MSU player to finish. He had a 2-over par 72 and stood 10-over par for the tournament.
The other four players for the Racers still have holes to complete.
Jared Wolfe is through 14 holes and is 2-over par and 5-over for the event, while Patrick Newcomb is through 15 holes and is 5-over and 7-over total.
Cameron Carrico had two holes to play and was 5-over and 11-over for the event, while Chris Griffin has one hole to play and is 4-over par for the round and 9-over for the tournament.
The Racers stand at 29-over par total and have a spot in 12th place tied with Detroit Mercy. MSU is 17 shots behind 11th place North Carolina State.
Since there will be no new pairings, the Racers will play the final round with North Carolina State and Duke.
The No. 1 seed Stanford is 4-under par for the event and has a 3-shot lead over Florida State and a 6-shot over third place Northwestern. Florida was in fourth place at 5-over, while Michigan was in fifth place at 6-over.
The top-5 teams advance to the NCAA Championship Finals June 1-6 in Chattanooga, Tenn., at the Honors GC.
Iowa was one shot behind Michigan for the magic fifth spot, while Duke was two shots and LSU was four shots back.
The Murray State tee times for the final round include: Nick Newcomb (9:20 a.m. eastern time), Chris Griffin (9:30 a.m.), Cameron Carrico (9:40 a.m.) Jared Wolfe (9:50 a.m.), and Patrick Newcomb (10 a.m.).
