Morgan Cross is one of four current or former MSU golfers competing this week at the Kentucky State Amateur in Russell Springs, Ky. at Lakewood CC.
Two current and former Murray State golfers are participating this week in the 84th Kentucky Women's State Amateur Championship at Lakewood CC in Russell Springs, Ky.
Day one of the event called for 18 holes of stroke play that sets the match-play brackets for the rest of the championship.
2007 champion and former Racer Jessica Widman-Grace (Henderson, Ky.) tied for medalist honors in the 18-hole shootout with a 1-under-par 70.
Current MSU player Morgan Cross (Elizabethtown, Ky.) had a 74, while current Racer Jilian Brake (Villa Hills, Ky.) carded an 80, with former Racer Tina Marshall (Georgetown, Ky.) coming home with a 93.
Widman-Grace wound up as the third seed in the championship bracket and will face off with (30) Karen Puckett at 10:44 a.m. central time Tuesday, while (6) Cross will meet (27) Allison Hancock at 11 a.m. The two could potentially meet in the semifinals if they can win two matches.
Brake is the 31st seed and meets second seed Beverly Games at 10:12 a.m.
Marshall is in the third flight bracket as the fifth seed and faces (12) Pam Knight at 11:40 a.m.
The event runs through Friday is played on a course at Lakewood CC that is a par of 71 and 5,257 yards.
April Emerson is the defending champion from 2009.
