Cross Advances At Kentucky Women's Amateur

Morgan Cross won her first round match at the Kentucky Women's Amateur in Russell Springs, Ky. 2007 champion and Racer Hall of Fame member Jessica Widman-Grace also advanced.
Two current and former Murray State golfers are participating this week in the 84th Kentucky Women's State Amateur Championship at Lakewood CC in Russell Springs, Ky.
In the first day of match-play rounds in the lower championship field, current MSU player Morgan Cross, the sixth seed, advanced to the quarterfinals with a 4 & 2 win over 27th seed Allison Hancock. Cross faces 11th seed Katy Humphrey at 11:08 a.m. Tuesday.
2007 champion and former Racer Jessica Widman-Grace is the third seed and moved on after defeating 30th seed Karen Pucket 6 & 4. Widman-Grace faces 14th seed Abby Smith Tuesday at 11 a.m.
The two will meet in the semifinals if they both win their matches today.
Current Racer and 31st seed Jilian Brake lost her first round match to second seed Beverly Games 2 & 1. Brake plays 18th seed Megan Kinney Tuesday at 10:44 a.m. in the consolation bracket.
Former MSU player Tina Marshall, the fifth seed in the third flight, won her first round match 6 & 4 over 12th seed Pam Knight. Marshall faces fourth seed Pam Trimble Tuesday at 11:56 a.m. in the quarterfinals.
The event runs through Friday and is played on at Lakewood CC to a par of 71 and 5,257 yards.
