The Racers open the season with a home exhibition game Aug. 14.
The Murray State Women's Soccer team released its 2010 schedule featuring a 19-game regular season including nine home games at Cutchin Field as the Racers will also host their own Racer Classic again in August.
The season is met with great anticipation for MSU Head Coach Beth Acreman as she preps for her fifth season.
“This is the type of schedule that will really challenge our team,” Acreman said. “We have some games against teams that will help prepare us for play in the Ohio Valley Conference. Teams like Saint Louis, Tulsa and Oklahoma State are traditional powers in NCAA D-I soccer.”
The Racers begin with an Aug. 14 exhibition against MSU alumni at Cutchin Field, before playing the 2010 season opener Aug. 20 at Bellarmine.
After an Aug. 22 visit to Saint Louis, MSU has its regular season home opener Aug. 27 when they host South Florida in the first day of the 2010 Racer Classic. Southeast Missouri State and Alabama A&M are the other two teams in the event. MSU plays AA&M Aug. 29th.
The Racers hit the road for games at Tulsa and Oklahoma State on Sep. 3 and 5, before coming back to Cutchin Field Sep. 10 to host IPFW.
MSU plays at future Ohio Valley Conference opponent SIU Edwardsville Sep. 12 before coming home to face Louisiana Tech and Western Michigan Sep. 17 and 19.
Acreman knows the race for the OVC championship will be a challenge.
“I think again there are good teams in our league across the board and anyone can win it,” Acreman said. “It's never easy in the OVC, we have seven great seniors who I will be calling on to use their experience and dedication to help guide the team in the right direction this season."
The Racers, who won the OVC regular season title in 2008 and finished third in 2009, begin play in the OVC Sep. 24 with a game at Eastern Kentucky, then play at OVC defending regular-season champion Morehead State Sep. 26. MSU's OVC quest continues Oct. 1 and 3 when they host Austin Peay and Jacksonville State..
After a non-league game at Evansville Oct. 6, the Racers finish OVC play with a road game at UT Martin Oct. 17, a home game Oct. 22 against SEMO and a road game at Eastern Illinois Oct. 24.
The Racers will defend their 2009 OVC Tournament title Nov. 4 when the 2010 tournament begins at the home field of the regular-season champion. MSU hosted the event when they won their first OVC regular season title in 2008, then won the OVC Tournament last November at Morehead State. The semifinals happen Nov. 5 with the championship game set for Nov. 7.
Beth Acreman enters her fifth season as Racer head coach with an OVC regular season title and one OVC Tournament trophy to her credit as she has racked up 28-22-7 mark overall including 16-12-3 in league play. Under Acreman, the Racers have shown to have a big home field advantage at Cutchin Field with a 9-3-1 record in league play and 12-7-2 overall over the last two seasons.
