Racer Soccer Grinding Out A Hot Preseason Camp

The Murray State women's soccer team has been in fall workouts for about a week and like all teams that play outdoors, the heat has been a constant reminder that while fall sports are right around the corner, the thermometer says it's still summer.
“They're (the players) are a little tired, and it has been a battle with the heat,” MSU Head Coach Beth Acreman said. “I'm happy with the effort they've come up with in camp so far and the competitive nature of our workouts has been very good, so we're going to keep pushing forward.”
The Racers normal day in camp begins when the sun comes and ends when the sun goes down.
“We're going on three-a-days which means conditioning in the morning, small-sided play in the middle of the day and then in the evening we come together on the big field,” Acreman said. “We're blending in the newcomers with our returners and the effort has been very good.”
The Racers will hit the pitch at Cutchin Field Sunday at 3 p.m. for the MSU Alumni Scrimmage where they current team plays against former players.
MSU opens the regular season Aug. 20 at Bellarmine before traveling to play at Saint Louis Aug. 22.
The home portion of the schedule begins at Cutchin Field Aug. 27 when MSU hosts South Florida in the beginning of the Racer Classic. Southeast Missouri and Alabama A&M are also in the event at the Racers' home field.
The Racers were picked first in the recent Ohio Valley Conference preseason poll.
