The Murray State men's golf team hit the gas pedal early in the first round and kept on running in the first day of the Wasioto Winds Fall Kick-Off in Pineville, Ky.

The Racers fired a first round 282 and backed it up with an afternoon 284 for a 566 total and a 21-shot lead over second place John A. Logan heading into Tuesday's final round.
At the end of 36 holes, the Racers had three of the top four individuals with Patrick Newcomb at the top after scores of 67-71=138 as the sophomore stands to win his first collegiate tournament if he can hang on in the final round.
Two of MSU teammates were close behind, with William Hunt in second place after scores of 70-71=141, while Cameron Carrico was in third place after carding scores of 70-72-142. Dustin Gosser had seventh place with scores of 75-70=145, with Hunter Ford in 13th with scores of 76-72=148.
MSU's Hunter York is playing as an individual and had a spot in 21st place in the field of 60 players after scores of 75-75=150.
The Wasioto Winds GC is playing to a par of 72 and 6,820 yards.
Southern Illinois had third place in the field of 10 teams at 589, while Belmont (592) and UT Martin (602) rounded out the top-5 teams. Lipscomb (605), Walters State (605), Morehead State (605) and Tennessee Tech made up the rest of the field.
