The Murray State women's golf team didn't get the opportunity they were looking for at the Lady Red Wolf Classic in Jonesboro, Ark., when Tuesday's final round was rained out.
ASU officials started the third (final) round at 8:30 a.m., but heavy rain caused the day's play to be called off at noon meaning results from the first 36 holes stood as final.
The Racers were three shots off the lead and finished second with rounds of 295-302=597. Host Arkansas State won the event with rounds of 299-295=594.
"We were playing well today when and our team was giving a good effort," MSU Head Coach Velvet Milkman said. "Our team has a great competitive drive and that showed today."
MSU's Alexandra Lennartsson turned in her third top-3 finish in four fall events with a spot in second place with rounds of 73-72=145. Delaney Howson took third place with rounds of 70-77=147, while Morgan Cross had rounds of 75-77=152 for a spot in ninth place. Alli Weaver finished 12th with rounds of 77-76=153. Sophie Olley carded rounds of 77-80=157 and finished 16th.
Northern Iowa took third at 614 and was followed by McLennan (622), Central Arkansas (632), Jackson State (643), Western Kentucky (664) and Quincy (743).
The Racers, who have two wins and a runner-up in four events this fall, wrap up the first half of the 2011-12 season at the MTSU Invitational (Oct. 25) at Old Fort Golf Club in Murfreesboro, Tenn.
