Hargreaves and Mooney earn adidas OVC Player of the Week Awards

Murray State senior Sophie Hargreaves (defense) and freshman Julie Mooney (offense) have been named adidas OVC Player of the Week for Oct. 18-24, the conference announced Tuesday.
Hargreaves scored her third goal of the season in the Racers 3-0 win on Oct. 21 against Eastern Illinois. Her game-winner came in the match's fourth minute on a strike from the center of the box. She has helped solidify the MSU defensive back line over the past few weeks, transitioning to defense from a midfield role. The Racers have allowed just one goal in their last five matches and sports a 4-0-1 record over that period.
Mooney scored her team-leading eighth goal of the season the last time out for Murray State, scoring the only goal of the match in the second half at 55:36 in a 1-0 victory against SIU Edwardsville. She also added the final goal of the game against Eastern Illinois, dribbling through the Panther defense to score at 34:45 of the first half. She has now scored six times in the last six games and is tied for second in the OVC with four goals scored in conference games.
The Racers head into the final weekend of OVC action unbeaten in their last four games against conference opponents, winning three of four and scoring 10 of a possible 12 points. The hot streak has propelled them to fourth in the league with 11 points and are just one point away from third place Eastern Illinois and two points from second place Eastern Kentucky.
MSU closes out the 2011 regular season with a pair of road contests in the eastern portion of the state this weekend, traveling to Morehead State and Eastern Kentucky. Game time against the Eagles is set for 6 p.m. Friday night, and the Racers will complete regular season play against the Colonels on Sunday at noon.
