Hargreaves and Mooney Earn First Team OVC Honors

Murray State senior defender Sophie Hargreaves and freshman midfielder Julie Mooney have been selected to the 2011 All-OVC First Team, in a vote of the conference coaches and sports information directors. Mooney was also selected to the OVC Newcomers team. The All-OVC teams were announced Wednesday night by the conference at the OVC Soccer banquet.
This is the third straight OVC First Team selection for Hargreaves and fourth selection to a postseason OVC team. A pivotal fixture in the MSU line up the last four seasons, she switched to more of a defensive role in the second half of the season and helped the Racers score four shutouts in their last five regular season games. She scored four goals this season and three game-winning goals, including the game-winner in a 1-0 win at Eastern Kentucky on the final day of the season that put the Racers in the OVC Championships. She is the second Racer to be named All-OVC First Team in three different seasons. She ranks fourth in school history with 53 total points, is fifth all-time with 21 goals and tied for fifth with 13 assists.
Mooney makes All-OVC First Team in her first season, leading the Racers on the season with eight goals and 18 points. She is tied with Hargreaves with three game-winning goals this season. She ended the season scoring six goals in Murray State's final eight games, helping the Racers to a 5-1-1 record in their last seven games. Mooney leads the OVC in shots taken this season with 78, a new school record, and is tied for third in the conference in goals scored.
