Team hopes to get tarp removed to practice this weekend

After nearly a foot of snow fell in the Murray area this week, the Murray State baseball team was left with two options. Other practice indoors until the snow melted, or go outside and create their own practice field by shoveling the snow themselves. With just one week left until the start of the 2011 season, the Breds chose to do the latter.
With sunny skies and temperatures reaching into the low 20s Thursday afternoon, head coach Rob McDonald came up with the plan to shovel out an infield on the turf at Stewart Stadium. With the help from assistants Chris Cole and Dan Skirka, the MSU infielders had a chance to throw on the make-shift diamond.
The work did not stop there as the team took turns pushing the snow off the tarp at Johnny Reagan Field. With the temperatures scheduled to be in the 50s and 60s starting this weekend, the Breds want to get the tarp off and get back to practice.
The 2011 season begins Feb. 18-20 when the Breds travel to face UNC Asheville. The home opener is set for Feb. 25-27 against Bowling Green.
