Moment of Silence
Prior to the first pitch on Friday, Murray State will hold a moment of silence in honor of freshman pitch Thomas McGurk, who was killed in a car accident in October. This season, the Breds have the initials T.M. sewn into the right side of their hats.
Weekend Weather
The weather in the Murray area is calling for warmer temperatures as the weekend progresses, but a strong chance of rain on Sunday. Friday will be the coldest day with temps in the upper 40s, with temps in the mid-50s on Saturday. It will reach the mid-60s on Sunday, but include a 60% chance of rain.
vs. Bowling Green
Bowling Green is making their fifth trip to Murray for a series. The Falcons hold an 8-3 advantage in the series. The two teams first met in 2002, with the teams splitting a doubleheader. BGSU won two-of-three in 2005, swept the series in 2006 and won two-of-three in 2008.
vs. the MAC
Murray State is 19-20 against teams currently in the Mid-American Conference. Akron is the most played opponent, but the majority of the meetings with the Zips came when they were a part of the Ohio Valley Conference. The Breds are 10-9 against the Zips, and also own winning records against Northern Illinois (4-2) and Western Michigan (2-0).
Beers Impressive in Second Start
Tyler Beers was very impressive in his second start of the season as he was perfect through four innings against Arkansas State. The junior tossed five innings and allowed one unearned run on two hits and eight strikeouts, with walking a batter. Beers fanned a pair in the first, third and fourth, while striking out one in the second and fifth.
Rhodes Drives in Three
Junior college transfer Jacob Rhodes used the middle of the field to his liking against Arkansas State. In two instances, Rhodes hit a pitch right back up the middle. The first time resulted in an RBI single, with the second resulting in a two-run base hit.
Who's on First
Through four games this season, three different players can lay claim to being the starting first baseman. Sophomore Colton Moore got the start in the opener, before Cody Larson started the next two games. Against Arkansas State, catcher Jacob Rhodes traded in his catchers mitt for a first baseman's glove.
Starting in Left Field...
Just like first base, it has been a merry-go-round in left field this season. Brandon Eggenschwiler started the opener, before Drew Pixley started the next two games. Ty Stetson was added to the list when he started against Arkansas State.
On Deck
The Breds continue their extended home stand as they welcome Arkansas State to Reagan Field on March 2. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
