Babin limits Mastadons to one run over six innings
BOX SCORE
Murray State second baseman Travis Isaak delivered a bases-clearing double in the fifth inning, and starter Bryan Babin made it stand up as the Breds won for the third time in four games, with a 4-1 victory over IPFW Sunday afternoon at Reagan Field.
The Breds (8-7) got on the board in the first inning as Brandon Elliott doubled down the left-field line with one out and went to third on Isaak's single to left center. Jacob Rhodes scored Elliott with a groundout to second.
The Mastadons (2-6) got on the board in the fifth inning as back-to-back singles put runners on the corners with no outs. Garrett Seagraves drove in the runner from third with a sacrifice fly to right field.
MSU took the lead in the fifth as Clay Fuson singled to right with one out and went to second when the grounder off the bat of Elliot Frey was misplayed by the shortstop. With two outs, Elliott was hit by a pitch to load the bases and Isaak jumped on the first pitch he saw and cleared the bases with a double to left center.
Babin (1-1) earned his first victory as he allowed just one run on five hits and three strikeouts over six innings. He did walk four, but was aided by three double plays by his defense. Cameron Finch (3) earned the save as he allowed one hit over the final three innings.
Samuel Walker (1-1) took the loss after allowing four runs, one earned, on six hits over 5.2 innings.
Isaak led the offense by going 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Noonan added a pair of hits, while Elliott scored two runs.
The Breds return to the diamond Tuesday afternoon as they travel to face Kentucky. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
