MSU Men's Golf Having Solid Spring Season

The Murray State men's golf team is having a good spring season and building momentum toward the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament, a title they won last season for the first time since 1991.

The Racers are coming off a win in Jackson, Tenn. (March 15) at the Grover Page Classic, a victory marked the 26^th all-time for head coach Eddie Hunt who guides the Racer program for the 10^th season.

“Overall from one to five, we had a great tournament,” Hunt said. “Any time you win a tournament by 22 shots, that's good. We had all five of our guys finish in the top-14.”

Senior Cameron Carrico (Owensboro, Ky.) leads the Racers with a 71.17 scoring average which is the best in the OVC and eighth in the nation among NCAA D-I golfers. He also ranks second in the nation in par-4 scoring at 3.96.

“Cameron had an exceptional career and is having an exceptional season,” Hunt said. “I don't think there's any doubt that he's one of the best players not only in the OVC, but in the nation.”

MSU sophomore Patrick Newcomb (Benton, Ky.) is seventh in the league in scoring at 73.2, while senior Hunter Ford (Paducah, Ky.) is 11^th at 73.5.

The Racers hit the road this week for the Spring Break Invitational in Delray Beach, Fla., where Florida Atlantic is the host at Gleneagles GC.

The OVC Tournament is at Greystone GC in Dickson, Tenn., April 25-27.
