Stetson Named to OVC All-Freshman Team

Murray State freshman Ty Stetson was named to the 2011 Ohio Valley Conference All-Freshman Team, the league office announced Tuesday evening. The all-conference teams were selected by the league's head coaches and sports information directors.
Stetson (Carmel, Ind.) appeared in 50 games in 2011, including making 45 starts. He finished the season by hitting .297 with four doubles 23 RBIs and 30 runs scored. He led the team with eight stolen bases and 23 walks, while ranking sixth with 13 multi-hit games.
In his first start of his career, Stetson went 2-for-4 against Arkansas State. In the series opener against North Dakota State, he went 3-for-5 with a double and three RBIs. He would later tie his season-best with three RBIs in the second game of a doubleheader against Southeast Missouri.
Stetson put together a five-game hitting streak at the end of March that saw him collect four multi-hit games. The streak began when he went 2-for-3 in a victory over Austin Peay, and then followed it up by going 2-for-3 against Southern Illinois. After collecting a hit in the series opener against UT Martin, Stetson went 2-for-4 with an RBI and four runs scored in the second game of the doubleheader. He closed out the weekend by going 3-for-6 with an RBI and two runs scored. Just one week later, he put together a season-long six-game hitting streak.
Stetson closed out his rookie campaign by going 6-for-13 with five runs scored in the series victory over Tennessee Tech. In the doubleheader sweep over the Golden Eagles, he went 5-for-8 with a pair of walks and four runs scored.
