Miller Memorial Proves Challenging - Racers Fare Well In Ky. State Am

Murray State's Miller Memorial Golf Course was the proud host of the 85th Kentucky Women's Amateur Championship June 20-24.
The event marked the second time that the championship was contested at Miller Memorial after the first in 2007.
Miller Memorial proved again to be a course worthy of hosting a championship. For the week, Miller played to a par of 72 and 5,707 yards. The toughest hole was the par-5 8th that yielded only 1 birdie and 10 pars and a scoring average of 6.3. The easiest hole was the par-3 2nd that played to a score of 3.2 and gave up seven birdies and 21 pars.
There were several players with Murray State ties competing including Racers' head coach Velvet Milkman and senior to be, Morgan Cross (Elizabethtown, Ky.). Incoming freshmen Gina Nuzzo (Louisville, Ky.) and Morgan Buchar (Paducah, Ky.) also competed. Former Racer players Jessica Grace (Henderson, Ky.), Lauren Hughes (Mayfield, Ky.) and Jilian Brake (Villa Hills, Ky.) were also in the field.
Grace, a former champion and MSU Hall of Famer member, advanced to the semifinals before being eliminated. Milkman and Cross each won two matches before their stay ended. Nuzzo and Buchar each won their first round matches.
