6/28/2011 9:21:49 AM | Men's Golf
Murray State golf student-athlete Patrick Newcomb has enjoyed his summer of golf more since he won the 100th playing of the Kentucky State Amateur Championship, June 9, at Kearney Hills Golf Club in Lexington, Ky.
Newcomb won the event over Centre College player Chris Morris with a birdie-birdie finish which was good for a two shot win.
The native of Benton, Ky., who will be a junior in the fall for the Racers, became only the second MSU winner of the event following Chris Wilson of Mayfield, Ky., who won it in 1992.
Newcomb, who will be a junior with the Racers in fall, still has plenty of golf to play yet this summer. He plans to play the Spirit of America Tournament, Fourth of July weekend in Decatur, Ala., as well as the Irvin Cobb Championship in Paducah, Ky., at Paxton Park GC (July 16-17) and the Kentucky Open (Aug. 2-4) at Persimmon Ridge Golf Club in Louisville, Ky.
