Racer Golf Has Success At Kentucky Open

Final Results
Murray State Golf had a successful week at the Kentucky Open played at Persimmon Ridge Golf Club in Louisville, Ky.
The event started with five current team members and six former players in the tournament field with eight total players making the 36-hole cut which allowed them to play in the final round Thursday.
Among current Racers, junior Patrick Newcomb was trying for a rare combination of winning the Kentucky Amateur (which he claimed June 9) and the Kentucky Open. Newcomb fired rounds of 76-71-68=215 and placed 6th and shared low amateur honors. His brother, former MSU player Nick Newcomb (Both are from Benton, Ky.) played as a professional and took 3rd place with scores of 71-72-70=213.
One other current MSU player made the cut, Hunter York (Hardin, Ky.) earned a spot in 28th place with scores of 71-79-74=224.
Other MSU finishers among were formers Racers all playing as pros: Jerry Price (Louisville, Ky.) in 8th place with rounds of 73-70-73=216, Jared Wolfe (Louisville, Ky.) 13th place at 74-75-69=218, Cameron Carrico (Owensboro, Ky.) in 18th place with scores of 78-71-72=221, and Mitchell Moore (Hopkinsville, Ky.) in 54th place at 75-74-80=228.
Josh Rhodes (Paducah, Ky.) played as an amateur and finished in 28th place at 78-72-84=224.
Three other current MSU players competed but missed the cut including: Travis Thompson (Benton, Ky.) 82-77=159, Dustin Gosser (Russell Springs, Ky.) 78-86=132 and Lars King (Hartford, Ky.) 95-86=181.
The Kentucky Open is one of the state's longest running golf tournaments since it began in 1920.
