The offense was awarded the victory on Sunday morning as Murray State went through its first pull pad practice on the field inside Stewart Stadium. The practice was the earliest for the Racers as they hit the field at 7:15 a.m.
“I was really excited about the tempo of the practice,” said head coach Chris Hatcher. “We came out early for two reasons, one was to beat the heat and the other was to give the guys an opportunity to go to church. I saw some good things, and I saw some bad things. It was the first live scrimmage and there were guys on defense that I was hoping could help us out that didn't look so good, but I saw some good things out of some young players.”
In the first rodeo of the season, it was the offense that completed the sweep. Roderick Tomlin, Elbert Ojendis and Raymond Hopson all came away victorious in their matchups.
The Racers will begin their three-a-day practices on Monday with the first practice set for 8 a.m.
Sunday Practice Notes
• Patrick Robertson caught a short screen pass and then made a pair of defenders miss on his way to a 47-yard touchdown.
• Tyler Evans, Jamal Crook and Jeremy Brackett all recorded sacks for the defense.
• Darrell Davis forced the only turnover of the scrimmage with an interception on an attempted screen.
• Duane Brady had the biggest gain of the day as he broke through the line on his way to a 60-yard touchdown run.
